Bay Street is well known as a synonym for Toronto's Financial District, but it contains a bit more than that! It's not very long and on this walk I started at Lake Ontario and walked north to where it ends as it joins into Davenport Avenue.
Click on any picture to see a big version! Also part of this map.
The bottom of Bay Street (looking SE). Lake Ontario to the right of the Westin.
Looking north on Bay from Harbour Street. Just left of the picture (OK, not in the picture but interesting enough and close enough to mention) is the Toronto Harbour Commissioners Building (now at least 1/4 mile away from the lake, but formerly right at the shoreline!). Sharp eyes will see the Royal York Hotel 'dominating' the skyline left-centre in this picture.
The Gardiner Expressway supports look to be in good shape.
Scotiabank Arena - just north of the Gardiner, west of Bay.
Canada Permanent Building (built in 1931; SW corner of Bay and Adelaide).
There's a 'Northern Ontario Building' in Toronto

A more recent look north up Bay to Queen Street and old city hall from Richmond Street
New City Hall (as seen on Star Trek: The Next Generation!) and as my brother Mike noted, City Hall also appeared in the movie Resident Evil: Apocalyse
(https://toronto.citynews.ca/2015/09/13/toronto-on-film-5-iconic-scenes-shot-at-city-hall/) where the main character (Milla Jovovich, though probably a stunt performer) rappelled down in Australian style, facing the ground and running.
The old Toronto Coach (bus) Terminal
The Sutton Place Hotel entrance (pic from FaceBook).
Large donkey with leg warmers - but it was a beautiful day! Maybe it's stuck in a time warp with 1980's exercise videos.
Looking north on Bay just north of Bloor. Bay TTC station at left.
And just east of Bay on Davenport on the south side - The Stone Church. An interesting looking building and it turns out that the site used to be Jesse Ketchum Hall. Constructed in 1848, the hall was torn down in 1986 to make way for the church.
Just showing Brenda that it can be done, if you log in at least.
ReplyDeleteAlso: City Hall also appeared in the first Resident Evil movie, the main character (Milla Jovovich, though probably a stunt performer) rappelled down in Australian style, facing the ground and running.
